My latest research involves assessing the needs of the Ati indigenous peoples in Panay Island, Philippines, some of the country’s most marginalized ethnic groups. One of its key findings is the need to establish a School of Living Traditions as an effective means to preserve the Ati people’s cultural heritage. Recently, my research team partnered with the Ati indigenous communities in Hamtic, province of Antique, Philippines, to work on the project titled, “Empowering the Ati Community in Hamtic, Antique through the Establishment of the School of Living Traditions”. This project specifically aims to create a dedicated learning space where elders and cultural masters can actively teach traditional skills, arts, and oral traditions to their youths.
